Pixels and Pie

I’ve been doing quite a few pixel faces lately! I got commissioned to do these 3. The first is of David Tennant (Dr. Who) and the two others are some guy named scott and his friend or something. I really feel like I’m getting the hang of doing caricature type stuff in pixel form…SO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY COMMISSION ME!

And I made these two at some point a while ago but for some reason didn’t really like them. I think I like them now! They’re of my Yeti and Bigfoot characters:

And the last thing I wanna post here is this big homage to pumpkin pie type drawing I did:

I LOVE PUMPKIN PIE. This is based on a recipe I made from an actual pumpkin last year that you can find here: http://www.pickyourown.org/pumpkinpie.php

So other than that I currently don’t really have anything to work on! I’ve been focused on schoolwork and doing stuff for supercoolsketchblog . I’m getting really tired of posting art on there that I’m not happy with, and I think my problem is that I’m so focued on school at the beginning of the week (I have classes on monday tuesday and wednesday) so thursdays I’m just LIVIN IT UP and then friday I only have one more day to do my drawing and I panic because I can’t think of anything and end up whipping something up on saturday that sucks that I’m forced to post anyway.

SO I think I might get to work on that today instead. But first…Dark Souls.

Vintage Cat Dude

I made this cat dude. Believe it or not it’s for a figure drawing class. I’m trying to pay close attention to things like wrinkles in fabric and stuff. The idea is cartoony heads with anatomically correct bodies and I’m going to be making a bunch of them. WE’LL SEE HOW THAT GOES!

What’s been going on!

Hey guys! So I haven’t really posted a completed piece for a while, and that’s because I’m working on some other things/have been in a bit of an art slump. I’ve been participating in a 30 day sketch challenge on my Tumblr, and I’m ALSO on a new sketchblog with Zack and Aubrey, called SuperCoolSketchblog! I’m doing my first post tomorrow, so stay tuned!

As far as the art slump goes, I’ve been trying to buckle down and figure out what I want to do with Monster World. I know I want it to be a comic, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to make it yet. I don’t know if I want this to be my magnum opus, or just something I work on for fun. I guess I’d like it to be both, and if that’s the case, I’m definitely not prepared to draw it. And THEN I don’t know if I want this to be a comic I post online, or one that I sell in print-version. I’m thinking then that maybe I’ll be working on monster world for the next couple of months and at the same time be posting some stuff online that’s no big deal and just for fun. I DUNNO.

Either way, here’s the final version of peach prince if you haven’t seen it yet:

Mario Kart 7

This only really makes sense if you know anything about mario kart 7. So like, I hope you do

Peach Prince!

This is a character I’m working on right now! Showing it from start to…uh…current. I’m trying to do more dynamic poses with the things I draw, hopefully this is a step in the right direction. I’m still not sure how I feel about the colors. I really like the yellow pants though! Anyway, the final version is going to have shading and a background and stuff.

Boops.

Yup

Drippy naked pizza man

I just made this. I don’t know if it’s done or what it is exactly

Zombie Comic!

Did this one in a few hours! No big thing, just a little comic thing. Not a crazy worked super hard thing. Just for fun. I don’t know. I feel super weird posting a comic because I’ve never really done one on my own as an adult before so it feels crazy. Check it out! (And click to see it full-size!) : (ALSO CHECK OUT PRINTS I’M SELLING http://www.tinyurl.com/monsterprints)

Pixels and Prints!

HEY. So lately I’ve been having a lot of fun working on pixel artwork, which is something I’m surprising myself with by not totally sucking at it! I’m slowly beginning to understand how making pixel art works, and I’m interested in making some animated gifs soon! For now, I have these two pixel faces I made:

One is of my Zombie character which I’m THINKING of putting on a shirt. I might complete part of the body and also include some spOoOoOoy text! The other face is of ME and is based on a drawing I posted here recently (life with and without the dudes), and THAT is probably going to end up being a sticker. I don’t know why but I have SO much fun making these, although they take a lot longer than you’d think. I get the general idea down and then tweak it over and over again until I get it just right. I think after doing enough artwork like this I’ll eventually know how to get it right on the first or second try.

ALSO! I’m going to be selling some artwork soon! I have 2 sets of silkscreened monster prints and also a painting! I think I’m going to put the prints as Buy-It-Now’s on ebay, because since I’ll be sending them in mailing tubes I seriously need the shipping to be calculated or I’ll be losing a buncha bux. Here they are!:

I have 5 of the first and 6 of the second. I hope people like em! I hate putting a price on my artwork though, because for some reason I feel like almost anything is too much money. I’ll probably be underselling myself, as usual, but even that might seem pricey to people. Some people don’t understand the amount of hours that go into something like this!

I’ll also be putting this painting up as an auction:

I painted this a LONG time ago and as much as I like it, I think I’m okay with letting it go now. I came home from California and one of the first things I did was take this painting off of my wall. I have no idea why, I guess artistically I’m ready to shed some…art. Stuff. What I mean is that I decided that I shouldn’t hang on to artwork for the sake of hanging on to artwork, and that anything I made once I am totally capable of making again!

LASTLY, I’ve been practicing inking things with a brush, and it’s freaking HARD. This is my second time using a brush and while I’m better at it than last time, it’s still really difficult and MEH:

This is closer to what I want my designs of the Saturdudes to look like. Some random scene, I don’t know what we’re looking at, and I also forgot to give us foreheads, but yeah. I’ll keep posting updates as I practice using the brush, because this kinda sucks and I had to touch up a TON of it with pens.

So that is all! My next update will be when the sale is on. What do you think of the Zombie being on a shirt? :D

(PS. Be sure to check out my digital prints store at http://society6.com/johnjsalomone !!!)

Pizza and Comics

PIZZA! So I decided I’m going to make pizza and cheeseburger stickers. Maybe even a shirt? I have no idea. Pizza doesn’t really scream “dudeneedaeaseonup” (or dudeneedaeaseonup doesn’t really scream “pizza?”) but I really like the way this is coming out so far! Either way, stickers for sure. I think I’m also going to make a ghost sticker (same graphic I have for the t-shirt idea I posted a while ago) and maybe one for bigfoot’s burgers. We’ll see! Also, those t-shirts will be up soon…my problem is that I haven’t decided on which colors and whether they should be on v-necks or crewnecks yet. Ugh.

I’ve also been working on a comic! It was supposed to be REALLY quick. Just a goofy whatever silly thing. Then I realized I haven’t made my own comic since I was 13 and had no idea what I was doing. I mean, I’ve made comics for Dorkly, but they always told me exactly what they wanted for that. Now I’m actually telling my own story, and this short two-page comic is taking way longer than I wanted it to. Everything I do is kinda like pancakes though, in that I totally screw up the first ones and then the rest are way easier after that. So even though this comic is taking forever and might not even be good or funny or anything, it’s a giant learning experience. Here’s a preview:

“Everything I do is kinda like pancakes” is the stupidest thing I’ve ever typed on here, by the way.
